Museum of Transport launches new website1 September 2008
The Museum of Transport has unveiled a brand new website with expanded content, as part of a campaign to increase community participation with the Museum and its collections.
The freshly designed website (www.gmts.co.uk) is easy to use with expanded information about the Museum’s permanent collections and special events, as well as extensive historical information for anyone interested in the county’s rich transport heritage.
“We hope that the wider community will be able to benefit from our new website, as it now makes it easier for people to find out about our collections as well as their local transport history,” said Museum Chairman Dennis Talbot.
One of the main features of the website is a comprehensive History Library, charting the development of public transport in the county since John Greenwood’s first bus service linking Pendleton and Manchester in 1824. Dennis said: “we take the concept of maximising access to our collection very seriously. The obvious way to see our collection is to visit, but we want everyone to be able to see the importance of our collection so the new comprehensive website is a resource that will grow in the future for historians and enthusiasts.”
The website also contains improved information for anyone wishing to visit the Museum, including directions and opening times.
